The vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite in China accounts for more than 35.2%and 11.6%of world total titanium and vanadium resource, respectively. At present, titanomagnetite concentrate is smelted in a blast furnace and BOF converter to produce semi-steel with blast furnace slag and vanadium-bearing slag for chromium-vanadium-bearing slag).This traditional process has the disadvantages of low recovery rates of titanium, vanadium and chromium from the blast furnace slag and vanadium slag, and over-consumption of resources and energy,let alone the environmental pollution.

 

Therefore, the development of new technology for high-efficient and clean utilization of vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite is of great importance. In order to solve the resource and environment problems, a series of new technologies for high-efficient and clean comprehensive utilization of vanadium-titanium magnetite have been developed through all-round cooperation with Panzhihua Iron &Steel Group and Chengde Iron & Steel Group which have most powerful domestic vanadium-bearing titanomagnetite processing capacity. And the related research has made great breakthrough in recent years, which is based on the SMS technology. The SMS media have excellent decomposition ability in reaction with the titanium slag and vanadium slag, resulting in the high-efficient conversion of valuable components, which is beneficial to the subsequent separation and purification processes.
